My family loves these rolls so much they request them for every Sunday dinner. Pulling their share of these slightly sweet, tender rolls from out of the basket, my grandchildren look at me and say, "Grandma, you are the world's best cook." -Bertha Johnson, Indianapolis, Indiana

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
3/4 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
1/2 cup sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1/4 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons shortening
1 teaspoon salt
4 to 4-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons melted butter plus additional as needed, divided

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the sugar, eggs, softened butter, shortening, salt and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Add enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. , Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1-1/2 hours., Punch dough down; divide in half. Roll each portion into a 12-in. circle. Brush each with 1 tablespoon melted butter, and cut into 12 wedges. Roll up wedges from the wide end and place point side down 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets. Curve ends to form crescents. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes. , Bake at 375° until golden, 8-10 minutes. Brush with additional melted butter if desired.

A friend asked me to make some appetizers, for her "OSCAR PARTY" tomorrow evening at her home. I decided on this little tidbit... I think they sorta look like a GOLDEN OSCAR, all wrapped up in a GOLDEN bundle of joy! Sorta cute, eh? Here is the recipe...and I will be makeing them for her Sunday while watching THE NASCAR...

1 pkg cream cheese...8 0z..softened
8 slice bacon, cooked, crispy, crumbled
1/3 c grated parmesan cheese (1-1/2 oz)
1/4 c finely chopped onion
2 Tbsp chopped parsley
1 Tbsp milk
2 can(s) crescent dinner rolls
1 egg.... beaten
1 tsp cold water
poppy seed....if desired

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 375F. Beat cream cheese, bacon, parmesan cheese, onion,parsley and milk in a small mixing bowl, beat at medium speed with electric mixer till well blended. Seperate dough into eight rectangles, press firmly perferations together to seal. Spread each retangle with two rounded measuring tablepoons cream cheese mixture. Cut each rectangle in half diagonally, repeat with opposite corners. Cut in half crosswise to form six triangles. Roll up triangles, starting at short ends.
  • 2. Place on a greased cookie sheet, brush with combined egg and water. Sprinkle with poppy seed ...if desired Bake 12-15 minutes, untill golden brown. Serve immediately....ENJOY!

2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
¾ cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
½ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
½ cup butter, room temperature
4 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup butter, softened

Steps:

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Stir in sugar, salt, eggs, butter, and 2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in remaining flour until smooth. Scrape dough from side of bowl. Knead dough, then cover it and let rise in a warm place until double (about 1 1/2 hours).
  • Punch down dough. Divide in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch circle. Spread with butter. Cut into 10 to 15 wedge. Roll up the wedges starting with the wide end. Place rolls with point under on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise until double (about 1 hour).
