Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

16 oz. of half and half
8 oz. of heavy whipping cream
8 eggs
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
4 1/2 slices white bread (preferably Texas Toast)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. sugar
2 Tlbs. raisins

Steps:

  • In large bowl mix together half and half, whipping cream, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Pour over bread placed in casserole dish. Soak until all the bread is wet. Mix together cinnamon, sugar and raisins. Add to top of bread. Cover with foil and bake in a water bath 400 degrees 75-90 mins.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bread. Stale or day-old bread works best for bread pudding, as it will absorb the custard more evenly and result in a richer, more flavorful pudding.
  • Use a variety of breads. For a more complex flavor and texture, try using a combination of different types of bread, such as white, wheat, and sourdough.
  • Don't over crowd the bread cubes. When placing the bread cubes in the baking dish, be sure to leave some space between them so that they can absorb the custard evenly.
  • Use a flavorful custard. The custard is the key to a delicious bread pudding, so be sure to use a recipe that you love. You can also add your own personal touches, such as spices, extracts, or chocolate chips.
  • Bake the bread pudding until it is set. The bread pudding is done baking when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the toothpick comes out with custard on it, the bread pudding needs to bake for a few minutes longer.

Conclusion:

Bread pudding is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With a few simple tips, you can make a bread pudding that is rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. So next time you have some stale bread on hand, don't throw it away - make bread pudding instead!
