Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 teaspoon honey (up to 1 tablespon or more, to taste) (can sub pure maple syrup for vegan version)
1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (can sub 1-2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger, to taste)
1 5- inch cinnamon stick (can sub 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil (optional*)
Pinch freshly ground black pepper*
1/2 vanilla bean (seeds scraped and entire bean added)
2-3 cardamom pods (crushed)
1 star anise
Pinch ground cayenne pepper
Pinch freshly ground nutmeg
Black peppercorns

Steps:

  • Set a small saucepan over low heat. Add the almond milk, 1 teaspoon honey, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon stick, and black pepper and stir with a whisk until combined.
  • Bring to steaming, just below a simmer. Do not let it come to a boil. Keep just below a simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat. Remove the cinnamon stick. If you added other spices that need to be strained out, strain using a fine mesh strainer then return to the pan. Stir in the vanilla and coconut oil (if using). Taste and add additional honey if desired (I like about 2 teaspoons).
  • Use a frother to froth the tea, if desired. Pour into a mug and spoon the froth over the top. Serve.

GOLDEN MILK LATTES

Provided by Molly Yeh

Time 10m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 quart whole milk
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instant espresso powder, as desired

Steps:

  • Add the milk to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently, being careful it does not scorch on the bottom. Then, add the sugar, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, cardamom, allspice, nutmeg and black pepper. Whisk to combine. When the spices are dissolved and the milk is steaming, remove from the heat and serve. At this point you can mix in the instant espresso powder according to the package instructions if desired.

Tips:

  • If you don't have access to fresh turmeric root, you can use ground turmeric powder. Just be sure to use 1/2 teaspoon instead of 1 tablespoon, as the powder is more concentrated.
  • You can also make golden milk lattes ahead of time. Just store the prepared golden milk in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you're ready to drink, simply reheat it over low heat or in the microwave until warmed through.
  • To make a vegan golden milk latte, use almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk instead of cow's milk.
  • If you're looking for a caffeine-free golden milk latte, use decaffeinated coffee or tea.
  • You can also add other spices to your golden milk latte, such as cinnamon, cardamom, or ginger.

Conclusion:

Golden milk lattes are a delicious and healthy way to start your day or wind down in the evening. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, golden milk lattes are a great way to boost your overall health and well-being.
