Categories     Pork     Bake

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 15 pound precooked ham with bone
1 pound dark brown sugar
4 12 ounce cans of beer
1/4 c honey
1/4 c Dijon mustard
2 c packed brown sugar
2 c Bourbon (Jim Beam)

Steps:

  • Place ham in deep roasting pan. Firmly pat 1 pound brown sugar on all sides of ham. Pour beer around ham. Cover and bake at 325 degrees for 3 3/4 hours (15 minutes per pound). One hour before end of baking time, pour off all but about 1 1/2 inches of beer. In small sauce pan, combine honey, mustard, 2 cups brown sugar, and bourbon. Heat until sugar melts. Baste ham every 10 minutes with beer mixture from bottom of pan and then the boubon glaze. Use all the bourbon glaze before removing ham from oven. Slice thinly and serve with sauce remaining in pan.

Tips:

  • Select the Right Ham: Choose a fully cooked ham with the bone in or boneless. Look for a ham that is at least 10 pounds to feed a crowd.
  • Prepare the Glaze: Make the golden glaze by combining brown sugar, Dijon mustard, honey, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer and let it thicken.
  • Score the Ham: Use a sharp knife to score the ham in a diamond pattern. This helps the glaze penetrate the ham and creates a nice crust.
  • Glaze the Ham: Brush the ham with the golden glaze and place it in a baking dish. Cover the ham with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (165°C) for 1 hour.
  • Uncover and Continue Baking: After 1 hour, remove the foil and continue to bake the ham for another 30 minutes, basting it with the glaze every 15 minutes.
  • Let the Ham Rest: Once the ham is cooked through, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

With its sweet and tangy glaze, tender meat, and beautiful presentation, this ham is sure to be a hit with your guests.
