CHRIS' CHOCOLATE CHIP COFFEE BARS
I got this recipe from a friend in the early 70's, and have been making them for years... I don't like coffee, but I sure love these delicious bars! This is one of those recipes that everyone LOVES... A cross between a Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Congo Bar with a slight coffee flavor, and not cakey at all... VERY GOOD! Serving size depends how big or small you cut them.

Steps:
- Beat eggs.
- Add coffee (not boiling).
- Add brown sugar; mix well.
- Add sifted flour and other dry ingredients.
- Add oil and vanilla; blend well.
- Pour onto a large ungreased cookie sheet.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and walnuts on top of batter.
- Bake at 350°F, for 25-30 minutes.
- Cool and cut into squares.
Tips:
- Prep Your Tools and Ingredients: Before you start baking, ensure all your ingredients are measured and ready, and your baking tools are clean and greased if necessary. Room temperature ingredients, especially butter, cream cheese, and eggs, mix more smoothly and evenly. Take them out of the fridge about 30 minutes before starting.
- Use High-Quality Ingredients: The quality of your ingredients directly affects the final product. Use good-quality chocolate chips, coffee, and butter for the best flavor and texture.
- Don't Overmix the Dough: Overmixing can make the dough tough and dense. Mix just until the ingredients are well combined. Overworking the dough can develop the gluten too much, resulting in a less tender coffee ring.
- Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough before rolling it out helps it hold its shape better while baking. If you're short on time, you can place the dough in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to firm it up quickly.
- Roll the Dough Evenly: Use a lightly floured rolling pin to roll out the dough evenly. This will ensure that the coffee ring bakes evenly.
- Brush with Egg Wash: Before baking, brush the coffee ring with an egg wash made from one egg beaten with a splash of water or milk. This will give it a golden brown color and a shiny glaze.
- Don't Overbake: Keep an eye on the coffee ring while it's baking. Overbaking can dry it out and make it tough. Insert a toothpick into the center; if it comes out clean, the coffee ring is done.
Conclusion:
This glazed chocolate chip coffee ring is a delectable treat that combines the flavors of coffee, chocolate, and cinnamon. With its moist and fluffy dough, gooey chocolate chips, and a sweet glaze, it's sure to be a hit at any gathering. Follow the tips mentioned above to ensure your coffee ring turns out perfect every time. Enjoy this delicious and indulgent pastry with your loved ones for breakfast, brunch, or as a special dessert.
