GIANT CINNAMON ROLLS

Giant Cinnamon Rolls image

As a young newlywed, I thought I'd take it upon myself to make cinnamon rolls because I thought that was the hallmark of a good baker. The rolls were dense like hockey pucks and somewhat flavorless. Our dear black lab Annie wouldn't even eat one. I practiced for a couple of months and entered a contest at the Iowa State Fair, and I won! -Cristen Clark, FoodandSwine.com

Tips:

  • Use a kitchen scale to measure your ingredients for the most accurate results.
  • Make sure your yeast is active before using it. To do this, dissolve it in warm water with a little bit of sugar and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. If it doesn't foam up, it's not active and you should get new yeast.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • When frying the doughnuts, maintain the oil temperature between 350°F and 375°F. Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature.
  • While frying, turn the doughnuts frequently to ensure even cooking and a golden-brown color.
  • Drain the doughnuts on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • For the glaze, whisk the ingredients together until smooth. If it's too thick, add a little more milk. If it's too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.
  • Dip the doughnuts in the glaze while they are still warm. This will help the glaze set.
  • Enjoy your doughnuts fresh, or store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Conclusion:

These Giant Chocolate Cinnamon Doughnuts are the perfect treat for any occasion. They're big, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The chocolate and cinnamon sugar coating adds a delicious touch that will satisfy your sweet tooth.
