1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces

  • Place potatoes in a large pot or dutch oven. Add enough water to cover the potatoes. Stir in 1 teaspoon of the kosher salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, place the remaining 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, pepper, garlic powder, sour cream, Parmesan cheese and butter in the bowl of an electric mixer.

Tips:

  • For the creamiest mashed potatoes, use Yukon Gold potatoes. They have a high starch content that breaks down easily, creating a smooth and fluffy texture.
  • Peel the potatoes before boiling them. This will help them cook evenly and prevent the skins from becoming tough.
  • Do not overcook the potatoes. They should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Drain the potatoes well before mashing them. Any excess water will make the potatoes gummy.
  • Use a potato ricer or food mill to get the smoothest mashed potatoes. A regular masher can leave lumps.
  • Add butter, milk, and cream cheese to the potatoes while they are still hot. This will help them absorb the flavors and create a rich and creamy texture.
  • Season the mashed potatoes with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
  • For a crispy topping, sprinkle the mashed potatoes with grated Parmesan cheese and bake them in the oven until golden brown.

Conclusion:
