Number Of Ingredients 9

4 c water
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 c quick cooking grits
2 Tbsp butter
1 1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese, divided
4 eggs, beaten
1/2 c milk

Steps:

  • 1. In a large saucepan bring the water to a boil. Add the garlic powder, salt and pepper. Gradually stir in the grits. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
  • 2. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the butter and 1 cup of cheese until melted.
  • 3. In a small bowl mix the eggs with the milk. Stir the mixture into the grits. Pour the grits into a greased 2-quart casserole dish.
  • 4. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh garlic on hand, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • Be sure to preheat your oven to the correct temperature before baking the casserole. This will help ensure that the casserole cooks evenly.
  • Cover the casserole with foil when baking. This will help keep the casserole moist and prevent the top from getting too brown.
  • Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the casserole to set.

Conclusion:

Garlic grits casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast, lunch, or dinner dish. It's perfect for a crowd, and it can be made ahead of time, making it a great option for busy weeknights. With its creamy texture, cheesy flavor, and garlicky goodness, this casserole is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
