Make and share this Garlic Shrimp With Blue Cheese Grits recipe from Food.com.

Provided by gailanng

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 cup grits
4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
4 ounces blue cheese (to taste)
3 large garlic cloves
3 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 lbs shrimp, peeled
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Cook grits and water according to package directions with 1 teaspoon salt. When grits are tender and thick, remove from heat and stir in black and cayenne pepper and blue cheese.
  • Mince garlic. Melt butter in a wide skillet on medium heat. Add garlic and stir 1 minute. Add shrimp, increase heat to high and cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until shrimp are opaque. Season with salt and pepper. Serve beside or over grits.

Tips:

  • Use fresh garlic: Fresh garlic provides the best flavor and aroma. If you only have garlic powder on hand, use half the amount called for in the recipe.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the grits, make sure to not overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the grits from cooking evenly.
  • Stir the grits frequently: Stirring the grits frequently will help to prevent them from sticking to the pan and will also help them to cook evenly.
  • Add the garlic at the end: Adding the garlic at the end of the cooking process will help to preserve its flavor and aroma.
  • Season to taste: Be sure to season the grits to taste with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings, such as cayenne pepper or paprika, to taste.

Conclusion:

Garlic grits are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like them cheesy, spicy, or simple, garlic grits are sure to please. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give garlic grits a try!
