GALA PECAN SPREAD, MEGAN'S & MOM'S

Gala Pecan Spread, Megan's & Mom's image

I used to love this when Mom made this, and so for my first Thanksgiving married, I made it in a disposable pan and 4x the ingredients. To my surprise, nobody ate it, so I was very thankful to take the majority of it home! I guess if it isn't dessert for the in-laws, or turkey, it isn't getting eaten!

PECAN SPREAD

Pecan Spread image

I do not remember where I got the recipe for the Snowcap Spread. Since this is Pecan Month, here is a spread for crackers from the Colorado Cachet cookbook. Though the recipe indicates putting the pecan pieces on top, I just mix them into the spread. I have also altered this to include 1/3 cup diced green olives 8 ounces deviled ham, and 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper. (This is really mixing another recipe (Snowcap Spread with the Pecan Spread)

1/2 c sour cream
1/2 c chopped pecans
2 Tbsp butter

Steps:

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh apples and pecans will give your Gala Pecan Spread the best flavor.
  • Don't overcook the apples: You want them to be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Use a food processor or blender to chop the pecans: This will give you a fine, even chop.
  • Be careful not to overmix the spread: You want it to be smooth, but not too thick.
  • Taste the spread as you go and adjust the seasonings accordingly: You may want to add more sugar or lemon juice, depending on your taste.
