Time 20m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

6 large eggs
¾ cup whole milk
¾ cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
½ teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste, or extract
1 loaf challah bread
unsalted butter, or ghee, for greasing
softened butter
pure maple syrup, warmed
flaky sea salt
fresh berry

Steps:

  • Preheat a nonstick electric griddle to 300°F (150°C). (Alternatively, heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.)
  • In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until well combined. Add the milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla bean paste and whisk until completely combined.
  • Working in batches, dip each slice of challah in the custard, letting soak for 20-60 seconds on each side, until fully saturated but not soggy.
  • Lightly grease the griddle with butter. Once melted, add the soaked challah on the griddle and cook, without disturbing, until golden brown and crispy, about 2 minutes. Use a flat spatula to flip the bread and continue cooking until the other side is golden brown, 2 minutes more. Wipe the pan clean between batches and add more butter as needed.
  • Serve the French toast with a pat of butter, a drizzle of warm maple syrup, a sprinkle of flaky salt, and berries.
  • Enjoy!

Time 4h

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 21

nonstick cooking spray, for greasing
1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F (43°C)
½ tablespoon instant yeast
½ cup granulated sugar
4 cups all purpose flour, divided, plus more for dusting
3 large eggs, room temperature
½ tablespoon McCormick® vanilla extract
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon kosher salt
½ cup rainbow nonpareils, divided, plus 2 tablespoons
¼ cup rainbow sprinkles
1 large egg yolk
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
2 tablespoons whole milk
2 ½ cups whole milk
4 large eggs
2 large egg yolks
2 teaspoons McCormick® vanilla extract
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
rainbow sprinkle, for garnish

Steps:

  • Make the brioche: Grease an 8 x 4-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment, combine the warm milk, yeast, sugar, and 1 cup of flour. Mix on low speed until fully combined. Cover the mixture with a clean kitchen towel and let rest for 20 minutes, or until the mixture is frothy.
  • In a large spouted measuring cup or medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla, and melted butter.
  • Uncover the flour mixture and return to the stand mixer. With the mixer running on low speed, slowly pour in the egg mixture. Once incorporated, gradually add the remaining 3 cups of flour and the salt, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl between additions. Continue mixing until the dough becomes very smooth and elastic and begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl cleanly, about 10 minutes. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  • Add ½ cup rainbow nonpareils to the dough and mix with a rubber spatula to incorporate.
  • Cover the dough again and refrigerate for 30 minutes, or until visibly puffed.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place in the prepared pan, 2 by 4. Cover with the kitchen towel and let proof until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and heavy cream.
  • Brush the dough with egg wash, then cover with the remaining 2 tablespoons rainbow nonpareils and the rainbow sprinkles.
  • Bake the brioche for 35-38 minutes, or until deep golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow inside when tapped. The internal temperature should reach 190°F (88°C). Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Meanwhile, make the frosting: In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
  • Make the French toast: In a large, shallow dish, whisk together the milk, eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla.
  • Slice the brioche evenly into 8 pieces, each about 1-inch-thick.
  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large nonstick or cast-iron skillet over medium heat.
  • Dip 1-2 slices of brioche at a time in the egg mixture, flipping to coat on both sides, then add to the skillet in a single layer and cook until golden on bottom, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook until golden on the other side, about 3 minutes more. Repeat with the remaining slices of brioche, adding the remaining butter as needed.
  • Top the French toast with the frosting and rainbow sprinkles.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the French toast; otherwise, the slices will not cook evenly.
  • If you don't have a griddle or large skillet, you can also cook the French toast in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  • To make sure the French toast is cooked through, insert a toothpick or fork into the center of a slice; if it comes out clean, the French toast is done.
  • Serve the French toast immediately with your favorite toppings, such as butter, syrup, whipped cream, or fresh fruit.

Conclusion:

Funfetti French toast is a delicious and festive breakfast or brunch dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With its colorful sprinkles and sweet flavor, Funfetti French toast is sure to be a hit with people of all ages.
