FRUIT WITH LIME AND CHILES

Fruit With Lime and Chiles image

Submitted for Zaar World Tour 2005. Fruiterias, Mexican fruit stands, serve fruit spiked with chile powder, lime and salt to enhance the flavors. Adding additional sugar or sugar substitute is up to you, according to taste or to how ripe the fruit is. Any fruit would work well in this, but I've mentioned the ones listed in the recipe. From a special issue of Saveur, The Best of Tex-Mex. I have not tried this yet.

Time 15m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 cups assorted fresh peeled fruit (watermelon, pineapples, papaya, mango coconut and cantaloupe)
1 lime, halved
salt, to taste
chili powder, to taste

Steps:

  • Divide fruit between 2 cups or bowls, squeeze juice from lime over fruit and sprinkle with salt and chile powder to taste and toss lightly.

  • Choose ripe, flavorful fruits. The better the fruit, the better the salad. Look for fruits that are brightly colored and have a sweet, aromatic smell.
  • Use a variety of fruits. This will give your salad a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include mango, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon.
  • Add some lime and chile peppers. These ingredients will help to brighten up the flavors of the fruit and give the salad a bit of a kick. If you don't like spicy food, you can always use less chile peppers.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs. This will add a pop of color and flavor to your salad. Some good options include cilantro, mint, and basil.
  • Serve immediately. This salad is best enjoyed fresh. If you need to make it ahead of time, store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours before serving.

This fruit salad with lime and chile peppers is a refreshing and flavorful dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you are looking for a healthy and delicious snack or side dish, give this salad a try.
