For the margarita:
2 cups frozen strawberries
1/2 cup (4 ounces) silver tequila
2-3 tablespoons (1-1.5 ounces) agave or simple syrup, depending on how sweet you like it
1/4 cup (2 ounces) freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 3 limes)
Optional: a few ice cubes (if the mixture looks too thin)
For serving:
Fresh lime for rimming the glass & garnishing
Sugar or salt for rimming the glass
Optional: Fresh strawberries for garnishing

Steps:

  • Start by preparing your glasses: Add salt or sugar to a small plate. Use a lime wedge to wet the rim of the glass, then dip the rim of the glass in the salt or sugar, rolling from side to side until well coated.
  • Add frozen strawberries, tequila, agave (or simple syrup) and lime juice to a high powered blender and blend on high until smooth. If the mixture is looking thin, add a few ice cubes. You may need to use your blender tamper to get everything moving!
  • Pour into the rimmed glasses and garnish with strawberries if desired. Serves 2-3. Cheers!

Tips:

  • Use fresh basil: Fresh basil leaves provide the best flavor for this margarita. If you don't have fresh basil, you can substitute dried basil, but use only 1/4 of the amount called for in the recipe.
  • Freeze your strawberries ahead of time: Freezing the strawberries before making the margarita will help to chill the drink and make it more refreshing. You can freeze the strawberries whole or sliced.
  • Use a good quality tequila: The tequila is the main ingredient in this margarita, so it's important to use a good quality tequila. Look for a tequila that is 100% agave and has a smooth flavor.
  • Don't over-blend the margarita: Over-blending the margarita will make it too icy and slushy. Blend the margarita just until the strawberries are crushed and the drink is well combined.
  • Serve the margarita immediately: Margaritas are best served immediately after they are made. If you need to make the margaritas ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 hours.

Conclusion:

The frozen strawberry basil margarita is a refreshing and delicious cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your margaritas sweet, sour, or somewhere in between, this recipe is sure to please. So next time you're looking for a delicious and refreshing cocktail, give the frozen strawberry basil margarita a try.
