Categories     Dessert

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
dash of salt
2/3 cup unsalted butter (, melted)
4 1/2 cups frozen berries (**raspberries, blackberries and blueberries)
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Make the topping first by combining the oats, flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Stir to combine.
  • Pour in the melted butter and stir to incorporate. Set aside.
  • In another bowl add the frozen berries, flour, sugar, salt, lemon juice and vanilla extract and toss gently to combine.
  • Pour mixture into an 8x8'' or similar size casserole dish or pie plate. Glob the topping ingredients evenly over the top (I say "glob" because the mixture will be softer than your normal dry crumble topping, because of the melted butter).
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and berries are bubbling around the edges.
  • Remove from the oven, place on a wire rack, and allow to cool for at least 7-10 minutes before serving. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
  • Cover leftovers and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Yield Makes 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 12-ounce packages frozen mixed berries (such as blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries; about 6 cups), unthawed
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
2/3 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, diced

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Combine berries, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour and lemon juice in large bowl; toss to blend well. Transfer berry mixture to 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish. Combine remaining 3/4 cup flour, oats, brown sugar, spices and salt in medium bowl. Add butter; rub in with fingertips until topping holds together in small moist clumps. Sprinkle over berry mixture.
  • Bake crisp until berry mixture bubbles thickly and topping is golden brown, about 1 hour. Let stand 15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Tips:

  • Use frozen berries: Frozen berries work as well as fresh berries and are often more affordable and accessible out of season.
  • Thaw berries before using: Thawing the berries before adding them to the filling will help prevent the filling from becoming too icy.
  • Don't overmix the crisp topping: Overmixing the topping will make it tough. Mix it just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This will ensure that the crisp is cooked through.
  • Serve the crisp warm with ice cream or whipped cream: This will make the crisp even more delicious.

Conclusion:

This frozen berry crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up frozen berries and is a fun and easy recipe to make with kids. This crisp is also a great way to get your daily dose of fruits. Berries are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, so you can feel good about indulging in this delicious dessert.
