Meet the Cook: An older lady at church gave me this recipe. I always include these logs in holiday food gifts to family and friends. My husband (a Southern Pacific engineer) and I celebrated our silver anniversary just last summer. We have two daughters in their 20's. Our home is in a small town set amid some beautiful country - in fact, we can see Mt. Shasta from the dining room window!-Kim Jordan, Dunsmuir, California

Tips:

  • To make the dough easier to handle, chill it for at least 30 minutes before rolling and cutting.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it is no longer sticky.
  • When rolling the dough, use a light touch and do not overwork it. This will help to prevent the cookies from becoming tough.
  • Bake the cookies until they are golden brown around the edges. Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before frosting them. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • For a smoother frosting, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy.
  • Add the powdered sugar gradually, beating until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
  • To decorate the cookies, you can use a piping bag fitted with a star tip or a spoon. You can also sprinkle the cookies with chopped nuts or colored sugar.
