Time 30m

Yield 4 , 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 large sweet potatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 dash white pepper

Steps:

  • Scrub the sweet potatoes and leave the skin on (best part.).
  • I like using a french fry cutter (it works sort of like those apple corer/slicer things) for this but if you don't have one, just use a knife to cut the potatoes into shoestrings.
  • Put the raw fries into a mixing bowl, and pour in the olive oil. Toss well to coat.
  • Add the seasonings and toss well again.
  • Arrange the fries on a baking sheet and bake at 400F for 10 minutes.
  • Turn the fries with a spatula and bake for another 10 minutes.
  • Blot any excess oil with paper towels, serve, and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Selecting the Right Sweet Potatoes: Choose firm and plump sweet potatoes that are free from blemishes and bruises.
  • Cutting the Sweet Potatoes: For even cooking, cut the sweet potatoes into uniform-sized strips or wedges.
  • Soaking the Sweet Potatoes (Optional): Soaking the sweet potato fries in cold water for 30 minutes before frying can help reduce starch and make them crispier.
  • Drying the Sweet Potatoes: Ensure the sweet potato fries are thoroughly dried before frying to prevent splattering and ensure a crispy texture.
  • Choosing the Right Oil: Opt for high-heat cooking oils like canola, vegetable, or grapeseed oil for frying.
  • Frying Temperature: Maintain a consistent oil temperature between 350°F (175°C) and 375°F (190°C) for optimal frying results.
  • Frying in Batches: Avoid overcrowding the fryer basket to ensure even cooking and prevent the fries from sticking together.
  • Draining and Seasoning: Immediately drain the fried sweet potato fries on paper towels to remove excess oil. Season them while they're still hot for maximum flavor absorption.

Conclusion:

Fried sweet potato fries are a delectable and versatile side dish that can elevate any meal. With their naturally sweet and flavorful profile, these fries offer a healthier alternative to traditional potato fries. By following the tips mentioned above, you can create perfectly crispy, tender, and addictive sweet potato fries at home. Experiment with different seasonings and dipping sauces to cater to your taste preferences and enjoy this delicious and satisfying snack or side dish.
