FRENCH FRIED ONIONS

French Fried Onions image

A homemade alternative to the DurkeeĀ® brand. I use these for casserole recipes. I will never buy store-bought French fried onions again. This recipe makes a lot! I often just use one onion and about 1/2 cup of milk and 1 cup of flour with seasonings if I just want to use them for one dish. Warning: You may have to make what the original recipe calls for because they are so yummy and you won't be able to stop eating them!

Time 25m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 large onion
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Slice onion as thinly as possible, more like a shave than a cut, across width. (You may need to use a meat slicer or food processor fitted with a 1 millimeter blade to slice it this fine.)
  • Heat oil in a small skillet. Working in small batches, fry onions, constantly shaking the pan, just until crispy and golden, about 3 minutes. Remove onions with tongs or a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Tips and Conclusion

Fried onions are a staple ingredient in many cuisines around the world. They add flavor, texture, and color to a variety of dishes. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to add fried onions to your next recipe, you can use store-bought ready-to-use fried onions. Here are some tips for choosing and using ready-to-use fried onions:
  • Choose a brand that you trust. Not all brands of ready-to-use fried onions are created equal. Some brands use lower-quality onions or add fillers or preservatives. Do some research to find a brand that uses high-quality ingredients and has a good reputation.
  • Check the expiration date. Ready-to-use fried onions typically have a shelf life of several months. However, it's important to check the expiration date before using them. Expired fried onions may not taste as good or may even be harmful to eat.
  • Store the fried onions properly. Once you've opened a bag or container of ready-to-use fried onions, store them in a cool, dry place. This will help to keep them fresh and flavorful.
  • Use the fried onions as directed. Most brands of ready-to-use fried onions come with instructions for use. Be sure to follow these instructions carefully to ensure that the fried onions are cooked properly.
Conclusion: Ready-to-use fried onions are a convenient and delicious way to add flavor and texture to your favorite dishes. By following these tips, you can choose and use ready-to-use fried onions that are of the highest quality and taste. With a little planning, you can easily use ready-to-use fried onions to create delicious meals that your family and friends will love.
