I needed to use up a head of cabbage and make something my kids might eat. My kids loved this dish. We have had it for dinner 3 times this month. We had a friend try it and he asked for the recipe.

Love the combo of cabbage & bow tie pasta.

Categories     Pasta

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 c uncooked bow tie pasta
8 c chopped cabbage
1 c chopped onion
6 Tbsp margarine
1/8 tsp pepper
1 lb kielbasa
for a healthier dish i use olive oil in place of the margarine & low fat kielbasa. you may want to add salt, but i try to limit sodium.

Steps:

  • 1. Cook bow tie pasta as directed on pkg. Drain, rinse with hot water. In large skillet, cook cabbage & onions in 4 tbsp of margarine for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occassionally. Add pasta & remaining 2 tbsp. margarine; mix well. Place kielbasa on top of mixture. Cover; cook over low heat about 15-20 minutes or until kielbasa is hot & flavors have blended.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cabbage: Use a firm, compact head of green or savoy cabbage for the best results.
  • Slice the cabbage thinly: This will help it cook evenly and quickly.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Cook the cabbage in batches if necessary to prevent it from steaming instead of frying.
  • Season the cabbage well: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all good choices.
  • Cook the cabbage until it is tender-crisp: You don't want it to be mushy, but you also don't want it to be crunchy.
  • Add the pasta and sauce: Use your favorite pasta and sauce for this dish. Alfredo sauce, tomato sauce, or pesto sauce are all good options.
  • Garnish with Parmesan cheese and parsley: This will add a finishing touch of flavor and color.

Conclusion:

Fried cabbage pasta is a quick and easy meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is also a budget-friendly meal that can be made with ingredients that you probably already have on hand. The cabbage is fried until it is tender-crisp and then tossed with pasta and sauce. The result is a delicious and satisfying meal that is sure to please everyone at the table.
