These mushrooms are a treasure of the woods hunted by many in the early spring here in Missouri. Simple and quick to fry and enjoy. Finding these can be very hard to find in the woods but well worth the work once you get a mess of them to eat.

NUTS AND BOLTS

Nuts and Bolts image

Feel free to substitute salts for powders, but cut the quantities to avoid overpowering the mixture.

Provided by Food Network

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 small box each: Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, Corn Chex
1 med. bag thin pretzels
1 can salted peanuts
1 can salted mixed nuts
1 cup corn oil
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup onion salt
1/4 cup garlic salt

Steps:

  • Mix sauce and spices in oil. In a large, shallow roasting pan, layer cereal (mixed), pretzels and nuts, drizzling each layer with the oil mixture. Bake at 250 degrees F for 2 hours, stirring every half hour.

Tips:

  • Choose the right bolts. Not all bolts are created equal. For frying, you'll want to choose bolts that are made of a high-quality metal, such as stainless steel or cast iron. These metals will conduct heat evenly and won't warp or melt when they're heated to high temperatures.
  • Season the bolts before frying. This will help to create a crispy crust and prevent the bolts from sticking to the pan. You can season the bolts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, or any other spices you like.
  • Use a well-seasoned pan. A well-seasoned pan will help to prevent the bolts from sticking and will also help to create a crispy crust.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. If you overcrowd the pan, the bolts will not cook evenly and will be more likely to stick together.
  • Fry the bolts in hot oil. The oil should be hot enough to cause the bolts to sizzle when they're added to the pan. This will help to create a crispy crust.
  • Don't overcook the bolts. Bolts are best when they're cooked until they're just tender. If you overcook them, they will become tough and chewy.

Conclusion:

Fried bolts are a delicious and unique snack or side dish. They're easy to make and can be seasoned with a variety of spices to suit your taste. So next time you're looking for something different to try, give fried bolts a try. You won't be disappointed!
