Categories     Food & Cooking     Healthy Recipes     Gluten-Free Recipes

Yield Makes 1 cup

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups fresh cranberries
3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
Zest of 1/2 orange
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Place over medium-high heat, and cook 7 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until berries start to pop but are still whole. Transfer to a bowl to cool; serve.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, ripe cranberries: Look for cranberries that are plump, firm, and deep red in color. Avoid any cranberries that are bruised or have soft spots.
  • Wash the cranberries thoroughly: Rinse the cranberries under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan: This will help to prevent the compote from burning.
  • Bring the compote to a simmer over medium heat: Do not boil the compote, as this will cause the cranberries to burst and the compote to become too thick.
  • Stir the compote frequently: This will help to prevent the cranberries from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan.
  • Remove the compote from the heat when it has reached the desired consistency: The compote should be thick and syrupy, but still have some whole cranberries.
  • Allow the compote to cool completely before serving: This will allow the flavors to develop and the compote to thicken further.

Conclusion:

Fresh cranberry compote is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be enjoyed in many different ways. It is perfect for topping pancakes, waffles, French toast, yogurt, and oatmeal. It can also be used as a filling for pies, tarts, and muffins. And it makes a great addition to a cheese plate or charcuterie board. With its bright red color and tart flavor, fresh cranberry compote is sure to add a festive touch to any holiday meal.
