4 Bean Casserole With Hamburger image

Great potluck dish to bring along. This is the best I've had! I got the recipe from my Mom & did a little tweaking. It has a great BBQ, tangy taste.

Categories     Beans

Time 1h15m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 (28 ounce) can country style bush's baked beans
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can butter beans, drained
8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 onion, chopped
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup lemon juice or 1/3 cup vinegar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 cup ketchup
1 lb ground beef, browned and drained
2 tablespoons molasses

Steps:

  • Brown bacon until done. Crumble and set aside.
  • Brown hamburger with onion. Drain.
  • Drain and rinse all beans EXCEPT baked beans.
  • Place all ingredients in crock pot on low for at least 2 hours OR place all ingredients in oven-safe bowl/dish uncovered in 350 degree oven for 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight helps to soften them and reduce cooking time. If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
  • Use a variety of beans: Using a variety of beans adds flavor and texture to the dish. Some good options include kidney beans, black beans, pinto beans, and navy beans.
  • Add vegetables: Vegetables add nutrients and flavor to the dish. Some good options include onions, celery, carrots, and green bell peppers.
  • Use a flavorful broth: The broth is an important part of the dish, so use a flavorful broth that you enjoy. Some good options include chicken broth, beef broth, or vegetable broth.
  • Season the dish well: Season the dish with salt, pepper, and other spices to taste. Some good options include chili powder, cumin, and paprika.
  • Serve the dish with your favorite toppings: Some good options include sour cream, shredded cheese, and chopped cilantro.

Conclusion:

Four bean bake is a hearty, flavorful, and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great way to use up leftover beans. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
