  • Select young and tender okra: Look for okra pods that are small, firm, and have a deep green color. Avoid okra that is large, woody, or has blemishes.
  • Wash and trim the okra: Rinse the okra under cold water and pat dry. Trim the stem ends and cut the okra into 1-inch pieces.
  • Soak the okra in buttermilk: Soaking the okra in buttermilk helps to tenderize it and gives it a slightly tangy flavor. Let the okra soak for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Coat the okra in flour: Dredge the okra pieces in flour, making sure to coat them evenly. This will help to create a crispy crust when you fry them.
  • Fry the okra in hot oil: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully add the okra pieces and fry them until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  • Drain the okra on paper towels: Remove the okra from the skillet and drain it on paper towels to remove any excess oil.
