Number Of Ingredients 11

3 lbs stew meat
1 cup onion, cut into chunks
2 cups sliced carrots
6 medium potatoes, cut in eighths
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped green pepper
2 teaspoons tapioca
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper

Tips:

  • Use high-quality beef: Opt for chuck roast, short ribs, or brisket for a tender and flavorful stew.
  • Brown the meat in batches: This helps develop a rich color and caramelized flavor.
  • Use a heavy pot: A Dutch oven or braising pan is ideal for evenly distributing heat and preventing burning.
  • Add plenty of vegetables: Carrots, celery, onions, and potatoes are classic choices that add flavor and texture.
  • Use a good quality red wine: A dry red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, adds depth and richness to the stew.
  • Simmer gently: Low and slow cooking allows the flavors to meld and the meat to become fall-apart tender.
  • Season to taste: Adjust the seasonings, such as salt, pepper, and herbs, to your liking.
  • Serve with crusty bread or mashed potatoes: These sides help soak up the delicious sauce.
