TILAPIA IN WINE AND WORCESTERSHIRE

Tilapia in Wine and Worcestershire image

I almost didn't try this recipe, I just couldn't get my head around fish and worcestershire. So glad I tried it..I found the original recipe on a card at the seafood counter at my grocery store years ago. I've added butter and adjust the amount up or down depending on number of filets being cooked. I adjust Tabasco carefully. !!

Time 25m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 pounds trout fillets (8 fillets total)
Kosher salt
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 lemon, sliced

Steps:

  • Sprinkle the trout fillets with salt. Set as many of fillets in a large skillet as will fit without crowding; if necessary, cook the fillets in two batches, reserving half of the sauce for the second batch.

Pour the sauce over the trout and cook over medium heat until the meat flakes easily with a fork, about 10 minutes. Use a fish spatula to carefully remove the trout to a platter. Garnish with lemon slices and serve.

Categories     < 30 Mins

Time 30m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 lbs flounder or 2 lbs sole fillets
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can Campbell's Golden Mushroom soup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground thyme

Steps:

  • Roll fish fillets and place in well buttered casserole.
  • Combine soup, worchestershire and thyme; pour over fish.
  • Bake, uncovered, in preheated hot oven (425 degrees F.) for twenty minutes or until fish flakes when you test it with a fork.
  • Sprinkle with parsley and serve with lemon wedges, if desired.

Tips:

  • Select the Right Fish: Opt for firm-fleshed fish like cod, halibut, or salmon, as they can withstand the robust flavors of Worcestershire sauce.
  • Marinate the Fish: Enhance the flavor of the fish by marinating it in Worcestershire sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This will allow the sauce to penetrate the fish and impart a deeper flavor.
  • Use a Non-Stick Pan: Prevent the fish from sticking to the pan by using a non-stick skillet or greasing the pan with cooking spray.
  • Cook the Fish Thoroughly: Ensure that the fish is cooked thoroughly to avoid any health risks. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C) as measured with a food thermometer.
  • Serve with Complementary Sides: Pair the fish with complementary sides like roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad to create a balanced and satisfying meal.

Conclusion:

Incorporating Worcestershire sauce into fish recipes adds a unique and savory dimension to the dish. Whether you prefer a simple pan-fried fish or a more elaborate baked or grilled recipe, Worcestershire sauce can elevate the flavor of the fish and create a memorable culinary experience. With its versatility and affordability, Worcestershire sauce is a staple ingredient that deserves a place in every home cook's pantry. So, the next time you're looking for a flavorful and easy-to-prepare fish dish, reach for Worcestershire sauce and let its tangy, umami-rich notes transform your meal.
