This is one of my husband's favorite dishes and I've been making this for about 45 years. I usually use a creamy chees like Velveeta but a white Mexican cheese would be good, too. It makes for a great sauce! If you don't like green peppers you can also use a can of mild green chilies. I usually serve this with Mexican or...

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 lb fresh ground beef
2 eggs beaten
1/2 finely chopped onion
1 pkg crushed ritz crackers
1/4 c each of ketchup & brown sugar
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/2 c diced greep pepper
1 c shredded cheese
2 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
can(s) pinto beans or kidney beans
1/4 tsp salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare the hamburger patties by mixing together the eggs, crushed crackers, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onions, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Make six patties. Brown the meat in a skillet over medium heat and check the bottoms often because they can burn easily since they contain brown sugar and ketchup.
  • 2. After they are browned on both sides, pour the mushroom soup over the burgers. Make sure the soup gets underneath the patties. Then sprinkle the pinto beans and green pepper over the top. Cover with a lid and let them simmer for about ten minutes over low heat.
  • 3. Sprinkle grated cheese over the top, cover it again and let it cook over low heat another five minutes until the cheese is melted. Then serve it up!

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ground beef. Look for ground chuck or sirloin that is at least 80% lean. This will ensure that your burgers are juicy and flavorful.
  • Season the ground beef well. Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. You can also add other seasonings, such as chili powder, cumin, or oregano, to taste.
  • Form the ground beef into patties. Make sure the patties are evenly shaped and about 3/4 inch thick. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Cook the burgers over medium heat. This will help them cook evenly without burning. If you are using a grill, cook the burgers over indirect heat.
  • Let the burgers rest before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the burgers, making them more tender and juicy.
  • Serve the burgers on your favorite bun with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.
