Tips:

  • Activate the yeast properly: Ensure the water is lukewarm (around 110°F) and let the yeast sit for the specified time to activate. This is crucial for a successful rise.
  • Use fresh fennel seeds: To get the most flavor, use freshly ground or whole fennel seeds. Grinding them just before use releases their aromatic oils.
  • Don't over-knead the dough: Over-kneading can result in a tough texture. Knead just until the dough comes together and forms a smooth ball.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place: Choose a draft-free spot with a temperature around 75-80°F for the dough to rise. This helps it reach its full potential.
  • Bake the bread until it reaches an internal temperature of 200°F: Use a thermometer to ensure the bread is cooked thoroughly. This will give you a perfectly baked loaf.
