Tips:

  • Choose the right fennel: Look for fennel bulbs that are firm and have a bright white color. Avoid bulbs that are bruised or have any brown spots.
  • Trim the fennel properly: Cut off the fennel fronds and the tough outer layer of the bulb. Then, slice the bulb lengthwise into quarters or eighths.
  • Parboil the fennel: This step helps to soften the fennel and bring out its flavor. To parboil the fennel, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fennel and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the fennel is slightly tender. Drain the fennel and set aside.
  • Use a flavorful breadcrumb mixture: The breadcrumb mixture used to top the fennel is what really gives it its flavor. Be sure to use a mixture that includes plenty of herbs and spices.
  • Bake the fennel until golden brown: The fennel should be baked until it is golden brown and tender. This usually takes about 20-25 minutes.

Conclusion:

Fennel al forno is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special occasion. It is a great way to enjoy the unique flavor of fennel. With its crispy breadcrumb topping and tender, flavorful interior, fennel al forno is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
