FOUL MUDAMMAS (EGYPTIAN FAVA BEANS)

Foul Mudammas (Egyptian Fava Beans) image

Foul mudammas recipe, made with hearty, creamy fava beans and loaded with flavor from ground cumin, fresh herbs, and a zippy lemon garlic sauce with hot peppers! Don't worry, the sauce is not spicy, but it adds just the right kick. I use a shortcut in this quick fava beans recipe. Serve it with warm pita bread and sliced veggies. Or turn it into a big vegan feast with falafel and sides like tahini, hummus, and roasted cauliflower!

FAVA BEAN CHILI

Fava Bean Chili image

Ok. I've heard a lot of talk recently about fava beans so I finally found some at our International market. Searching the Internet I wasn't really able to come up with a recipe that I thought my husband would eat without giving me a fight so I made up my own. We both loved it. Time 9h

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 c fava beans, soaked and skinned
1 c pinto beans, sorted, cleaned and soaked
1 c kidney beans, canned
1 lb beef, i used home canned beef in broth
1 can(s) rotel tomatoes
1 1/3 pkg chili seasoning
PREPARING FAVA BEANS

Steps:

  • 1. Fava beans must be sorted, washed and soaked for several hours so that you can remove the thick skin. Once that is done they are ready to cook.
  • 2. Pinto beans must also be sorted, washed and soaked preferably over night. Then cooked in water and salt (to taste) on the stove until tender then drained.
  • 3. Once the dry beans have been prepared all beans can be put into a crock pot with other ingredients and cooked for several hours until ready to serve.

Tips:

  • Soak the fava beans overnight. This will help them cook more evenly and prevent them from becoming tough.
  • Use a large pot. Fava bean chili is a hearty soup, so you'll need a large pot to accommodate all of the ingredients.
  • Don't be afraid to add more spices. Fava bean chili is a great recipe to experiment with different spices. Try adding a pinch of cumin, chili powder, or paprika to taste.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings. Fava bean chili is delicious served with a variety of toppings, such as sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped cilantro, or sliced avocado.

Conclusion:

Fava bean chili is a delicious and healthy soup that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you're looking for a hearty and flavorful soup, give fava bean chili a try. You won't be disappointed!
