Categories     main-dish

Time 45m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for the skillet
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1 tablespoon Chinese mustard
1 tablespoon Sriracha
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 6- to 7-ounce skin-on salmon fillets
1 bunch scallions, chopped
Sesame seeds, for topping

Steps:

  • Combine the olive oil, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, maple syrup, Chinese mustard, Sriracha and garlic in a large bowl. Pour one-third of the mixture into a small bowl and reserve. Add the salmon fillets to the large bowl. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of olive oil to coat the skillet. Add the salmon skin-side down and cook until crispy, 5 minutes, lowering the heat if the glaze starts to get too dark in the pan. Baste the flesh side with the reserved marinade. Flip and cook until the salmon is cooked through and the flesh side is golden brown, 3 to 4 more minutes. Transfer to a platter and top with the chopped scallions and sesame seeds.

Tips:

  • For the freshest salmon, look for fish that is firm to the touch and has a bright pink color. Avoid any fish that is slimy or has a grayish tint.
  • If you don't have a ginger grater, you can use a microplane zester or a sharp knife to finely mince the ginger.
  • To make the glaze, be sure to use a good quality soy sauce. A dark soy sauce will give the glaze a richer flavor.
  • If you don't have a baking sheet, you can also cook the salmon in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Just be sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly.
  • For a crispy skin, be sure to pat the salmon dry before cooking. You can also score the skin with a sharp knife to help the glaze penetrate.
  • Serve the salmon immediately with your favorite sides. Some good options include steamed vegetables, roasted potatoes, or rice.

Conclusion:

This fast salmon with a ginger glaze is a delicious and easy weeknight meal. The salmon is cooked to perfection in just 15 minutes, and the glaze adds a sweet and savory flavor that everyone will love. Serve it with your favorite sides for a complete meal that the whole family will enjoy.
