Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 1h45m

Yield 1 loaf

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 (1/4 ounce) package yeast
1 1/4 cups lukewarm milk
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon oregano, dried
1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese
3 -3 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons fresh grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Dissolve the yeast in the milk; Add salt, 1/4 cup olive oil, 1 tablespoon oregano, and 1/4 cup parmesan cheese.
  • Add flour a little at a time; When dough is manageable, turn out dough onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
  • Place in bowl lightly oiled with olive oil; Rise for 1 hour in dark, warm place until dough has doubled.
  • Knead dough for 2-4 minutes; Divide dough into 20 equal pieces, roll each piece into a ball; Butter large loaf pan and place 14 of the balls on the bottom in 2 rows, 7 in each row; Brush with olive oil; Place remaining 6 balls down the middle on top of the other 14; Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon oregano and 2 tablespoons parmesan.
  • Cover and let rise for 45 minutes.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees.
  • The balls will produce a beautiful,"mountainous" surface on the bread- a real conversation piece!

Tips:

  • Make sure to use fresh, active yeast. Old or inactive yeast will not produce enough gas to make the dough rise properly.
  • The water temperature should be between 105°F and 115°F (40°C and 46°C). Water that is too hot will kill the yeast, while water that is too cold will not activate it properly.
  • If you are using a stand mixer to make the dough, be careful not to overmix it. Overmixing can make the dough tough.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. This will help to develop the gluten in the flour, which will make the dough strong and chewy.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour. This will give the yeast time to produce gas and make the dough light and airy.
  • When shaping the dough, be careful not to degas it. Degassed dough will not rise properly.
  • Bake the bread or pizza in a preheated oven. This will help to ensure that the crust is crispy and the inside is cooked through.

Conclusion:

These oregano bread and pizza dough recipes are a great way to make delicious, homemade bread and pizza. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a variety of delicious meals that your family and friends will love.
