FABULOUS FROZEN GREEN BEANS

Fabulous Frozen Green Beans image

Green beans out of season ? - no time to shop ? - too hot to cook ? - no time to cook ? You will treasure this recipe! Be sure to use "whole" frozen green beans.

Provided by Lorac

Categories     Vegetable

Time 20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (1 lb) bag frozen green beans
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon italian seasoning mix
garlic salt

Steps:

  • Microwave beans according to package directions and drain.
  • Melt butter in a large skillet, add onions and sautee over medium low heat until they begin to yellow.
  • Add bread crumbs and seasonings and saute 1 minute.
  • Add green beans and saute 3 to 4 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, tender green beans: Look for beans that are a vibrant green color and snap easily when bent.
  • Trim the beans: Remove the ends of the beans and any tough strings.
  • Blanch the beans: This process briefly cooks the beans in boiling water, which helps to preserve their color and nutrients. To blanch the beans, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the beans and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender. Immediately remove the beans from the boiling water and plunge them into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Dry the beans thoroughly: Once the beans are blanched, pat them dry with a clean towel or paper towels. This will help to prevent them from sticking together when they are frozen.
  • Freeze the beans: Place the beans in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour. This will help to keep them from clumping together. Once the beans are frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container.
  • Store the beans properly: Frozen green beans can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 year. Be sure to label the bag or container with the date so you know when you froze them.
  • Use the beans in your favorite recipes: Frozen green beans can be used in a variety of dishes, such as stir-fries, soups, stews, and casseroles. They can also be roasted or grilled.

Conclusion:

Freezing green beans is a great way to preserve their freshness and nutrients. By following these tips, you can easily freeze green beans at home and enjoy them all year long. Whether you use them in your favorite recipes or simply steam them and serve them as a side dish, frozen green beans are a delicious and healthy addition to any meal.
