Grated zest of 1 orange
Grated zest of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

I adapted this from a 50-year-old peach crisp recipe. Although it works well with peaches, it works even better with fresh, crisp cooking apples.

Best Apple Crisp image

Nothing says "fall is here" quite like the smell of tender-baked apples filling your home. This simple and downright delicious apple crisp gives you all the flavor you could ever ask for in a dessert, and is as quick to make as it is to finish. The cherry on top? Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Sweet, firm apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp hold their shape well and provide a nice contrast to the soft, gooey filling.
  • Peel and slice the apples evenly: This ensures that they cook evenly and creates a more visually appealing crisp.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: Give the apples and topping plenty of room to spread out so that they can crisp up properly.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender: Check the crisp halfway through baking and stir the filling if necessary to ensure even cooking.
  • Let the crisp cool for at least 15 minutes before serving: This allows the flavors to meld and the topping to set.
  • Serve the crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream: This adds a delicious creamy element that complements the sweet-tart apples and crunchy topping.

Conclusion:

Evans Farm Inn Apple Crisp is a classic fall dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet-tart apples, crunchy oat topping, and creamy vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, this crisp is the perfect way to end a meal or enjoy as a snack.
