ENGLISH STYLE SPICED BEEF STEW

English Style Spiced Beef Stew image

This is probably the best beef stew I've ever made. My recommendation would be to double or even triple it, this wasn't nearly enough! The broth is rich, yet not too thick. I did throw in the vegetables at the same time as the meat. It was delicious! Source: About.com

1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1 dash allspice
1 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice

Tips:

  • Sear the beef in batches: This will help to brown the meat and develop flavor.
  • Use a heavy pot: A heavy pot will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the stew from sticking.
  • Brown the vegetables: Browning the vegetables will help to add flavor and color to the stew.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: This will give the stew a more complex flavor and texture.
  • Add the wine and beef broth: The wine will help to deglaze the pan and add flavor, while the beef broth will add depth and richness.
  • Simmer the stew for at least 1 hour: This will allow the flavors to meld and the beef to become tender.
