Number Of Ingredients 2

1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 to 10 drops food coloring (a drop at a time), adjust for desired color

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F for 10 minutes. Measure sugar into clear jar with tight fitting lid. Add food coloring one drop at a time and screw cap on tightly. SHAKE to combine. Repeat until desired color is reached. Spread sugar out on baking sheet. Bake in oven for 10 minutes at 350°F. You may also store it in an air tight container for several months. This stays drier and stores wonderfully as is but even better if you spread colored sugar in thin layer to air dry for about an hour or microwave in 30 second intervals, stir and repeat for about 1 to 2 minutes or until moisture is evaporated. You can also add a few grains of rice to absorb any moisture. Allow your homemade glitter to cool before using it. Sprinkle, dip or shake onto whatever you like. Put this in a clear salt shaker for easy shaking or pour some into a saucer. Salt may be substituted for sugar, if desired. Can be used around the rim of glasses or as a decorative effect In drinks like a margarita and anywhere you want a salty taste. Notes: Temperature extremes (weather) may cause different results. Be aware that colors like silver are hard to obtain.

HOMEMADE EDIBLE GLITTER - COLORED SALT OR SUGAR

Homemade Edible Glitter - Colored Salt or Sugar image

Easy, cheap and fun! Coat the rim of a drink with this or let the kids use it like glitter for a rainy day art project. I actually made pink and green salt and sugar for my dd's bridal shower. There are so many uses for this! Kids of all ages love this! Great for wedding and baby showers, kids parties or craft projects etc,. Try different types of salt from fine to coarse if you like. Great way to get the kids involved! Try the sugar on top of breads, cookies or even toast! Storing in a clear salt shaker makes it easy to see the contents. Try making several colors and/or mixing two or more food colors to make a 'new' color. Great way to teach kids colors, math =measuring and so on. This is also just a great way to have fun and save money at the same time! You can use this same method to color rice, pasta, coconut flakes etc... Experiment and have FUN!

EDIBLE GLITTER

You can use granulated white sugar or any of the crystalline sugars (white raw sugar). Avoid brown sugar (too moist) and powdered sugar (not sparkly). Use liquid food coloring because paste coloring is more difficult to mix and may discolor when baked.

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 2

1/4 c sugar
1/2 tsp liquid food coloring

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together the sugar and food coloring.
  • 2. Bake the colored sugar in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes.
  • 3. Store the sugar glitter in a sealed container, to protect it from moisture.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of glitter: Not all glitter is edible. Look for glitter that is specifically labeled as "edible" or "food-grade."
  • Use edible glitter sparingly: A little goes a long way. Too much glitter can be overwhelming and ruin the flavor of your dish.
  • Add edible glitter at the end of the cooking process: This will prevent the glitter from melting or dissolving.
  • Experiment with different colors and shapes of edible glitter: You can find edible glitter in a variety of colors and shapes, so you can create a custom look for your dish.
  • Have fun! Edible glitter is a great way to add some sparkle and fun to your food.

Conclusion:

Edible glitter is a versatile ingredient that can be used to add sparkle and fun to a variety of dishes. With a little creativity, you can use edible glitter to create stunning desserts, eye-catching cocktails, and even festive decorations.
