EASY VEGAN BAKED BEANS

Easy Vegan Baked Beans image

This is a less-sweet baked beans recipe that's better the second day. I really like the different flavor of this one. Although the recipe says to cover while cooking, I left it uncovered since it seemed juicier than I wanted. This was no problem and it did work to thicken them up. From Eden Organic Foods.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Beans: Select dried beans over canned beans for better texture and flavor. Navy beans are the traditional choice, but you can use any variety you like.
  • Soak the Beans: Soaking the beans overnight or for at least 8 hours helps to soften them and reduce cooking time. Make sure to rinse the beans thoroughly before cooking.
  • Use a Dutch Oven or Slow Cooker: A Dutch oven or slow cooker is ideal for cooking baked beans, as they allow for even cooking and help to develop the flavors.
  • Add Aromatics: Aromatics such as onion, garlic, celery, and carrots add depth of flavor to the baked beans. Sauté them in a little oil before adding the beans and other ingredients.
  • Use a Variety of Seasonings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different seasonings to create your own unique flavor profile. Common seasonings include salt, pepper, paprika, chili powder, cumin, and oregano.
  • Don't Overcook the Beans: Overcooked beans can become mushy and lose their texture. Cook the beans until they are tender but still hold their shape.
  • Serve with Cornbread or Whole-Wheat Toast: Baked beans are traditionally served with cornbread or whole-wheat toast. You can also serve them over rice or potatoes.

Conclusion:

Baked beans are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are also a great source of plant-based protein and fiber. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily make your own vegan baked beans at home.
