SIMPLE CROCK POT TURKEY BREAST

Simple Crock Pot Turkey Breast image

This is a simple recipe for a Turkey Breast on the bone. It comes out very moist. The next day I take the remaining turkey meat & make open faced turkey sandwiches (1 can Campbell's Turkey Gravy mixed with 1 can of Campbell's Mushroom Gravy in large skillet - heat on medium then add turkey meat, reduce heat & simmer on low until ready to serve on sliced bread).

Time 7h10m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

5 1/2 lbs turkey breast (I use bone in but you can also use boneless)
1 large onion (sliced into 4 thick slices)
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans chicken broth (I usually use College Inn)
salt
pepper
garlic powder
2 raw garlic cloves
extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Wash & dry turkey breast. Leave skin on.
  • Rub entire breast with olive oil. Season entire breast with salt, pepper, & garlic powder (including under the skin). Top with 2 cloves of raw garlic.
  • Coat bottom of crock pot with olive oil.
  • Add the 4 thick slices of onion to crock.
  • Place turkey breast on top of the onion (onion makes a little shelf for breast so it does not stick to bottom of crock).
  • Add the 2 cans of broth to bottom of crock (try not to wash off the seasoning on the turkey breast).
  • Cover with lid & cook on high x 1 hr then low for 6-8 hrs (or just cook on low for 8-10 hrs.).

EASY SLOW COOKER TURKEY BREAST (BONE IN)

Easy Slow Cooker Turkey Breast (bone in) image

Turkey Breast cooked in a slow cooker is super easy and convenient especially for me! I live with my family and my sis and I take turns cooking dinner but let's face it, sometimes you just get sick of being on your feet using recipes that dirty up a gazillion pots, pans, and mixing bowls. (*also our regular oven is broken so we...

Time 6h

Number Of Ingredients 9

5 lb turkey breast
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp ground thyme
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
olive oil, extra virgin
1 large onion, sliced

Steps:

  • 1. Thaw out turkey breast in refrigerator for AT LEAST a day. (I looked online and it was supposed to be a day for a 5 pound turkey breast but when I took it out the next day and unwrapped it, it was still slightly icy b/c of the gravy packet that was crammed in the cavity of the turkey breast sooooo a day and a half might be better. Don't fret if it is still frozen! You can also thaw in cold water. I just ended up running water over it and by the time I was done playing with it, it wasn't frozen anymore. Sorry for the paragraph lol!
  • 2. Remove any excess skin hanging from the end of your turkey breast. Oil up a 6 quart slow cooker (just depends on size of turkey breast) with olive oil or cooking spray. Slice the onions and lay on bottom of slow cooker so that your turkey breast can rest on top of them and doesn't feel so alone. :)
  • 3. Rub your turkey breast with some olive oil if you like. That's what I did but I think it would have been fine without it. Mix your seasonings together and sprinkle all over your turkey breast (try to get it under the skin too). *NOTE: My turkey breast had been injected with a salt solution so I didn't add salt but some more wouldn't have hurt it so that's why I added a tsp to the ingredient list.
  • 4. Ok. So your turkey has been rubbed and seasoned and hugged...well, not the last one. Now place it on top of the onions. I had to place mine on its side because I guess it was too tall for the cooker so one side did end up flatter but it didn't change the yumminess! Put lid on, set your slow cooker on low and let that baby cook for 6 hours. My slow cooker instructions said 6-7 hours for a 6-7 pound turkey breast. Mine was b/t 5 and 6 so I went with 6 hours and it wasn't overcooked. Obviously you know how your slow cooker works better than I do so times may vary. *Now, I've read online that some take out the turkey breast when it is done and put it under the broiler in their oven for a bit to crisp up the skin but my oven is broken so I just removed the skin when I cut it up.
  • 5. Enjoy! I chucked the gravy packet that came with it and made my own using a beef gravy recipe I found online but substituting the beef broth with chicken broth but whatever works for you. Serve with stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Tips:

  • Choose the right turkey breast: Look for a bone-in turkey breast that is between 4 and 6 pounds. A larger turkey breast will not fit in a slow cooker.
  • Season the turkey breast generously: Use your favorite seasonings, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. You can also add herbs, such as rosemary, thyme, and sage.
  • Brown the turkey breast before cooking: This will help to seal in the juices and give the turkey breast a nice golden color. To brown the turkey breast, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turkey breast and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until browned.
  • Add vegetables and broth to the slow cooker: Vegetables will help to add flavor to the turkey breast and the broth will help to keep it moist. Good vegetables to use include carrots, celery, onions, and potatoes.
  • Cook the turkey breast on low for 6-8 hours: The cooking time will vary depending on the size of the turkey breast. A 4-pound turkey breast will take about 6 hours to cook, while a 6-pound turkey breast will take about 8 hours.
  • Let the turkey breast rest before carving: Once the turkey breast is cooked, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the turkey breast.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker turkey breast is a delicious and easy way to enjoy a classic holiday meal. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a flavorful and moist turkey breast that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a hassle-free holiday meal, give slow cooker turkey breast a try. You won't be disappointed!
