Quick and easy. You can change the bacon to sausage or omit altogether if you prefer. Not quite sure where I got this recipe from rather think it was from a Baptist Cook Book compiled by Canadians living in South Africa! Very international.

1 slice bread, thickly cut
250 ml milk
3 eggs
1 onion, grated
1 1/2 cups cheese, grated
2 teaspoons mustard
salt
pepper
10 ml melted margarine
1 cup bacon, fried and chopped

Steps:

  • Mix milk and melted margarine, pour over the bread, allow to stand for 1/2 hour. Mash well, add bacon, onion, cheese, mustard, salt and pepper, mix together. Then add beaten eggs.
  • Pour into greased pie dish, bake at 190 degrees for around 30 minutes.
  • Serve with a green salad.

1 small onion, finely chopped
250 ml grated cheddar cheese
1 (410 g) can evaporated milk
4 eggs
60 ml flour
10 ml mustard powder
7 ml salt
5 ml pepper

  • Preheat oven to 180 °C.
  • Grease a 22 cm pie dish.
  • Place spinach, onion and cheese into the pie dish.
  • Combine remaining ingredients and pour into pie dish.
