Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/2 cup rolled cut oats
1 cup milk or water (plant-based milk also works)
1 egg
1/4 cup bell peppers (diced small)
2 tbsp yellow onion (diced small)
Herbs, salt, pepper, hot sauce (optional)
Butter (for cooking)

Steps:

  • Add the rolled-cut oats and milk (or water) to a small saucepan. Cook over medium-low, stirring occasionally, until the oats are cooked through and soaked up a majority of the liquid-about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • Heat up a teaspoon of butter in a small skillet. Add the bell peppers and onion and cook until the veggies are softer and slightly transluscent, about 3 minutes. Set aside.
  • In that same skillet, heat up another teaspoon of butter. Crack open the egg and cook how you desire-scrambled, over-easy, or sunny-side up.
  • Scoop the oatmeal into a bowl, top with veggies and the egg, and add any other desired topping-fresh herbs, hot sauce, etc.

SIMPLE SAVORY OATMEAL

Simple Savory Oatmeal image

Want something savory in the morning, but needs to be quick and simple? This is it. I'd compare it most readily to a deluxe cheese grits recipe, but this has no cheese--and grits (unless instant) are typically a bunch more work. This was an alternative for my 10-year-old who always wanted eggs and sausage for breakfast. Fruits and brown sugar in the oatmeal wasn't cutting it.

CLASSIC OATMEAL FOR ONE

Classic Oatmeal For One image

This is a simple, classic single serve hot oatmeal recipe

Provided by Melissa

Categories     Breakfast

Time 4m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/3 cup old fashioned rolled oats
2/3 cup water (you can sub the milk of your choice or do half milk and half water)
1 tbsp raisins
1/2 banana (thinly sliced)
1/8 tsp vanilla extract (not required)
1 sprinkle cinnamon
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Put all the ingredients in a small saucepan and give a quick stir - choose a saucepan with a lid because you'll need that later
  • Turn the heat on to medium and keep an eye on your pot - it won't take long to boil and once it starts to boil you'll need to stir it frequently for about 3-4 minutes or until all the liquid is absorbed (don't let it stick to the pan because that makes a big mess). If you are using quick cooking oats it will take even less time so watch carefully!
  • Once the liquid has been absorbed - and this will literally only take a few minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and cover. Let it sit for another 2-3 minutes
  • Serve - you can top with fresh or frozen fruit, additional milk or even a drizzle of maple syrup or a sprinkle of hemp seeds

Tips:

  • Use a variety of toppings and mix-ins: This will add flavor and texture to your oatmeal and make it more enjoyable. Some popular toppings and mix-ins include nuts, seeds, dried fruits, berries, and spices.
  • Cook your oatmeal with milk or water: This will make it creamier and more flavorful. You can also use a combination of milk and water.
  • Add a pinch of salt: This will help to balance the sweetness of the oatmeal and make it more savory.
  • Don't overcook your oatmeal: Oatmeal is best when it is cooked until it is tender but still has a little bit of a bite to it. Overcooked oatmeal will be mushy and bland.
  • Experiment with different flavors: There are endless possibilities when it comes to flavoring your oatmeal. Try adding different spices, herbs, and extracts to find your favorite combination.

Conclusion:

Savory oatmeal is a delicious and healthy breakfast or lunch option. It is easy to make and can be customized to your own taste. With a little creativity, you can create a savory oatmeal bowl that is both satisfying and nutritious.
