OLIVE OIL POPCORN

Olive Oil Popcorn image

Provided by Daphne Brogdon

Time 10m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

6 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup popcorn kernels
Kosher salt

Steps:

  • Heat 2 to 3 tablespoons of the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the popcorn kernels, cover the pot, and cook until popped, shaking the pot occasionally, 4 to 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and drizzle the popcorn with the remaining olive oil while stirring. Season with salt and then give one final stir. Transfer to a serving bowl.

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels: Not all popcorn kernels are created equal. For the best results, use non-GMO popcorn kernels that are specifically designed for microwaving.
  • Use a large enough bowl: The popcorn will expand as it pops, so make sure you use a bowl that is large enough to accommodate the expansion.
  • Don't overcrowd the bowl: If you overcrowd the bowl, the popcorn will not pop evenly.
  • Add olive oil and salt: Olive oil and salt are essential for flavoring the popcorn. Add them to the bowl before microwaving.
  • Microwave the popcorn in short bursts: Microwave the popcorn in short bursts of 30 seconds, shaking the bowl in between each burst. This will help prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Listen for the popping to slow down: Once the popping slows down to a few seconds between pops, stop microwaving the popcorn. Overcooking will make the popcorn tough and chewy.
  • Let the popcorn cool slightly before serving: Let the popcorn cool slightly before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

This olive oil microwave popcorn recipe is a quick and easy way to make a delicious and healthy snack. The popcorn is light and fluffy, with a slightly salty and buttery flavor. It is a great alternative to store-bought popcorn, which is often loaded with unhealthy fats and chemicals. With just a few simple ingredients and a few minutes of your time, you can enjoy a delicious and satisfying snack that is good for you, too.
