Time 20m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 orange, sliced and seeded
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups water
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 bottle red wine

Steps:

  • combine the orange, sugar, water, and spices in a large stainless steel or enameled pot.
  • Slowly bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat, add the wine, and slowly reheat but do not boil.
  • Serve warm in mugs.
  • Serves 8.

Tips:

  • Choose the right wine. A good rule of thumb is to use a wine that you would enjoy drinking on its own. Avoid using wines that are too sweet or too tannic, as these flavors can be overpowering when mulled.
  • Use fresh spices. Fresh spices will give your mulled wine the best flavor. If you don't have fresh spices on hand, you can use dried spices, but be sure to use half the amount.
  • Don't boil the wine. Boiling the wine will cause the alcohol to evaporate and ruin the flavor. Instead, heat the wine gently over low heat until it just barely simmers.
  • Let the wine mull for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors of the spices to meld together and create a delicious, aromatic drink.
  • Serve the wine hot. Mulled wine is best enjoyed hot, so be sure to serve it immediately after it's done mulling.

Conclusion:

Mulled wine is a delicious and festive drink that is perfect for enjoying during the holiday season. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can easily make your own mulled wine at home. So next time you're looking for a warm and comforting drink, give mulled wine a try. You won't be disappointed!
