Categories     Meat

Time 3h30m

Yield 12-15 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2-2 lbs ground beef (for vegetarians you can substitute tofu for the ground beef and it turns out good.)
1 green pepper
1 onion
1 head garlic
4 (14 1/2 ounce) cans diced tomatoes or 4 (14 1/2 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
2 (14 1/2 ounce) cans chili beans
1/2 cup chili powder
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/16-1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (depending on desired spicyness. don't add much more than this it gets real hot)
salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Brown meat (drain grease).
  • Cut up vegetables.
  • Put everything in a pot and boil on stove around 3 hours covered(crock pots also work, but I've found it doesn't turn out as good. It is always better heated up the next day).
  • That's it.

Tips for Making the Best Chili:

  • Use a variety of beans: This will give your chili a more complex flavor and texture. Some good options include kidney beans, black beans, and pinto beans.
  • Choose a good quality chili powder: This is the key to a great-tasting chili. Look for a chili powder that is fresh and has a deep, rich color.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices: There are many different spices that can be added to chili to give it a unique flavor. Some good options include cumin, oregano, and garlic powder.
  • Let your chili simmer for a long time: This will allow the flavors to develop and meld together. The longer you simmer your chili, the better it will taste.
  • Serve your chili with a variety of toppings: This will allow your guests to customize their bowls of chili to their liking. Some good options include shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, and avocado.

Conclusion:

Chili is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a great meal to serve on a cold winter day, or it can be served as a party appetizer.
