Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 47m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups macaroni
1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped broccoli, thawed
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups cooked cubed ham
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Cook macaroni, add the broccoli to the water the last 3 minutes of cooking.
  • Drain.
  • Add all other ingredients EXCEPT parmesan cheese.
  • Mix well; put in casserole dish.
  • Bake at 350* for 30 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with parmesan and bake 5 more minutes.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality ham. A flavorful ham will make all the difference in this dish. Look for a ham that is smoked or cured, and that has a good amount of marbling.
  • Cook the macaroni al dente. You don't want the macaroni to be mushy, so cook it according to the package directions, or until it is just tender.
  • Use a creamy cheese sauce. A creamy cheese sauce will help to bind the ingredients together and make the casserole more flavorful. You can use a store-bought cheese sauce, or make your own by melting butter, then whisking in flour and milk until smooth. Then, stir in grated cheese until melted.
  • Add your favorite vegetables. This casserole is a great way to sneak in some extra vegetables. Try adding chopped broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, or peas.
  • Top with breadcrumbs. Breadcrumbs will add a nice crispy topping to the casserole. You can use plain breadcrumbs, or season them with garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.

Conclusion:

Ham and macaroni casserole is a classic comfort food dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is easy to make, and it can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make a ham and macaroni casserole that is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
