Steps:
- 1. Preheat the oven to 400°F
- 2. Place yogurt, cranberries, and the orange zest into a blender. Process until cranberries are well chopped. Then, add four and process until combined. Transfer the dough into a lightly floured board and knead it until it is smooth and not sticky. Add flour as needed.
- 3. With a floured rolling pin, roll the dough 3/4-inch thick. Flour a 3-inch cutter and cut shapes out of the dough. Place the scones on a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Whisk egg and water together in a small bowl and then, brush the tops of scones with it. Bake for about 20 minutes, until the tops are browned and the insides are fully baked.
Tips:
- Mise en place: Before you start baking, make sure you have all your ingredients and tools ready to go. This will help you stay organized and efficient.
- Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients you use, the better your scones will taste. Look for fresh, ripe cranberries and oranges, and use real butter and heavy cream.
- Don't overmix the dough: Overmixing the dough will make your scones tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined, then stop.
- Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will help the scones rise more evenly. You can chill the dough for up to 2 hours, or overnight.
- Bake the scones in a hot oven: A hot oven will help the scones rise quickly and evenly. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) before baking.
- Don't overbake the scones: Overbaking the scones will make them dry and crumbly. Bake the scones for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
- Let the scones cool before serving: Let the scones cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. This will help them set and firm up.
Conclusion:
Cranberry orange scones are a delicious and festive treat that are perfect for any occasion. They're easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a few simple tips, you can make the perfect cranberry orange scones that will impress your friends and family.
