EASY CINNAMON TWISTS RECIPE

Easy Cinnamon Twists Recipe image

I love cinnamon rolls, but hate how much time and effort they take. These twists are ready in a fraction of the time and taste just like a cinnamon roll!

Provided by Six Sisters Stuff

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (13.8 oz) tube refrigerated pizza dough (or your favorite homemade pizza dough - I used Pillsbury brand)
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup powdered sugar (more or less, depending on how thick you want your frosting)
1 tablespoon milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray (or use parchment paper or a [silpat liner|http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00629K4YK/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00629K4YK&linkCode=as2&tag=myrecmag-20&linkId=GYHYTBHHHJXO4TQA]).
  • Roll out your pizza dough on a lightly floured surface (or just push it out with your fingers).
  • In a small bowl, mix together sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Brush melted butter over the entire surface of the dough and sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture evenly on top.
  • Fold the dough in half (long ways or as my kids would say: like a hot dog bun). Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut dough into 12 skinny strips (about 1" thick). Take each strip, and while holding the ends, twist around once or twice and place on the cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough strips.
  • Cook for 11-12 minutes (or until they are slightly golden).
  • While the twists are baking, mix together the frosting ingredients. You can either drizzle the frosting over the hot twists or wait until they cool down. My kids also like to use the frosting as a dip.

Easy Mini Cinnamon Marshmallow Crescent Twists image

These are so easy to make, you can even sprinkle some finely chopped nuts in the cinnamon/sugar mix. Make certain to drizzle the icing on top of the crescents while they are still warm, the icing will set firmly. The recipe can be doubled.

Time 23m

Yield 16 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
4 tablespoons melted butter
8 large marshmallows (cut in half)
1/2 cup icing sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons whipping cream (might need more to achieve desired drizzling consistency)

Steps:

  • Set oven to 375°F.
  • Lightly spray a cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a small bowl mix together 1/2 cup sugar with cinnamon.
  • Separate the dough into triangles.
  • Cut each triangle in half lengthwise.
  • Brush each dough with melted butter.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Place a marshmallow half at the wide end of each triangle, then roll up starting at the wide end, pinching ends of dough to seal the marshmallow.
  • Place the dough on prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • In a small bowl whisk together the powdered sugar with almond extract and whipping cream, adding in more cream to create a drizzling consistency.
  • Drizzle over warm crescents.
  • Remove to wire racks.

Tips:

  • Use active dry yeast that is not expired. Check the expiration date on the package before using.
  • Activate the yeast in warm water before adding it to the dough. This will help the yeast to grow and produce carbon dioxide, which will make the dough rise.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. This will help to develop the gluten in the flour, which will make the dough strong and chewy.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. This will give the yeast time to ferment the dough and produce carbon dioxide, which will make the dough light and airy.
  • Roll the dough out into a long rectangle. The dough should be about ¼ inch thick.
  • Brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Roll the dough up tightly, starting from one long edge and rolling towards the opposite edge.
  • Cut the dough into 1-inch pieces.
  • Place the cinnamon twists on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake the cinnamon twists in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  • Let the cinnamon twists cool slightly before serving.

Conclusion:

Cinnamon twists are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that are perfect for any occasion. They are soft, chewy, and full of cinnamon sugar flavor. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make these delicious pastries at home. So next time you are looking for a sweet treat, give cinnamon twists a try. You won't be disappointed!
