EASY CINNAMON APPLE RAISIN BREAD

Easy Cinnamon Apple Raisin Bread image

This is an easy and delicious bread to prepare. Even better you only need one mixing bowl because you can throw all of the ingredients right in! Feel free to tweak the ingredients to your liking...add more cinnamon...add nuts, etc. I hope you enjoy it! Edited: I have also tried out the bread by using 1/2 whole wheat pastry flour and 1/2 regular flour, a tbl of wheat germ and less sugar to make it a tiny bit "healthier". It came out just as nice as the original.

EASY CINNAMON RAISIN BATTER BREAD

Easy Cinnamon Raisin Batter Bread image

This is an old recipe that I got when I was in 4-H, many years ago. I have made this so many times and it never fails. Its easy and really good. I like to use this bread for toast or French toast. Its also good or peanut butter sandwiches. The texture of this bread is not as fine (more air holes) as kneaded bread but I have...

Time 2h40m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 c raisins
1 1/2 c warm water (105-115 degrees)
1 pkg active dry yeast
2 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1 tsp salt
3 c all purpose flour, divided
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp cinnamon sugar for topping

Steps:

  • 1. Place raisins in hot water to soak for 30-60 minutes. This softens them and makes a better bread. Drain raisins and set aside. Use water from raisins in next step.
  • 2. Check raisin water temperature. It should be 105-115 degrees. In a large mixer bowl, stir together raisin water, yeast and honey. Add butter, salt, and 2 cups of the flour. Beat at low speed until combined. Then increase mixer speed to medium-high and beat for 1 minute. Stop mixer and stir in remaining flour by hand. Cover bowl (with a towel or saran wrap, not tightly) and let rise in a warm place, until double in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch down dough with a wooden spoon and add raisins and cinnamon. Mix by hand until combined. Spoon dough into a buttered loaf pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover loaf pan (with a towel or saran wrap, not tightly) and let rise until doubled, but it should not reach over top of pan. Sprinkle top of loaf with cinnamon sugar.
  • 3. Bake for about 40 minutes or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Cool on a wire rack.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use fresh, high-quality ingredients. Organic and locally sourced ingredients are ideal.
  • Make sure your yeast is active before using it. To test, dissolve the yeast in a cup of warm water with a teaspoon of sugar. If the mixture becomes foamy after 5-10 minutes, your yeast is active and ready to use. If not, discard it and start over with fresh yeast.
  • When measuring flour, use a kitchen scale to ensure accuracy. Scooping flour directly from the bag can result in too much flour being packed into the cup, which can make the bread dry and dense.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes. This will help develop the gluten in the flour, which will give the bread a chewy texture.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size, about 1-2 hours. This will give the yeast time to ferment and produce carbon dioxide gas, which will cause the bread to rise.
  • When baking the bread, preheat your oven to the correct temperature and bake the bread for the specified amount of time. Underbaking the bread will result in a doughy, gummy texture, while overbaking will result in a dry, crumbly texture.

Conclusion:

With the right ingredients, a little patience, and a bit of practice, you can easily make delicious homemade cinnamon raisin bread that your family and friends will love. Whether you enjoy it for breakfast, lunch, or as a snack, this classic recipe is sure to become a favorite in your kitchen. So grab your apron, gather your ingredients, and let's get baking!
