Yield Makes 2 Servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

3/4 cup coarsely chopped cantaloupe
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
4 teaspoons olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon minced seeded jalapeño chili
2 5- to 6-ounce fresh tuna steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)

Steps:

  • Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat). Mix cantaloupe, onion, cilantro, 2 teaspoons oil, lime juice and jalapeño chili in small bowl. Season salsa to taste with salt and pepper. Let stand 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, brush tuna steaks on both sides with remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill tuna until just opaque in center, about 3 minutes per side.
  • Transfer tuna to plates. Spoon salsa alongside and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe cantaloupe: A ripe cantaloupe will have a deep orange color, a sweet smell, and will give slightly when you press on it.
  • Use a variety of colors: To add visual appeal to your salsa, use a variety of colors of peppers, onions, and tomatoes.
  • Adjust the spiciness to your taste: If you don't like spicy salsa, remove the seeds from the peppers before chopping them. You can also add more sugar or honey to taste.
  • Chill the salsa before serving: Chilling the salsa for at least 30 minutes before serving will allow the flavors to meld and develop.
  • Serve with your favorite chips or vegetables: Cantaloupe salsa is a great appetizer or snack. Serve it with tortilla chips, pita chips, or your favorite vegetables.

Conclusion:

Cantaloupe salsa is a refreshing and flavorful salsa that is perfect for summer gatherings. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. So next time you have a ripe cantaloupe, try making this salsa. You won't be disappointed!
