Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 c butter
1/2 c finely chopped pecans
1/2 c sugar
1 box yellow cake mix
1 (20oz) can(s) sliced apples, drain well
1 c sour cream
1 tsp cinnamon
1 egg
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. In a bowl, cut the butter into the dry cake mix until crumbly.
  • 3. Mix in pecans.
  • 4. Press the mixture lightly into an ungreased 9 x 13 inch baking dish building up a slight edge.
  • 5. Bake 10 minutes.
  • 6. Take the pan out of the oven and carefully arrange apple slices on the warm crust.
  • 7. Mix sugar, cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. salt. Sprinkle this over the apples.
  • 8. Blend sour cream, egg and 1/4 tsp. salt together.
  • 9. Drizzle over the apples then spread lightly with a spoon to cover.
  • 10. Bake for 25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Do not over bake.
  • 11. You can serve this warm but I prefer to let it stand for 2 hours so the topping isn't so runny.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples that hold their shape well when baked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn.
  • Slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and create a tender filling.
  • Use a combination of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom are all classic spices that complement the flavor of apples. You can also add a pinch of ginger or allspice for a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the kuchen until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This usually takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Let the kuchen cool slightly before serving: This will help the filling to set and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Apple kuchen is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and classic flavors, it is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you are looking for a sweet treat, give this recipe a try.
