EASY & DELICIOUS APPLE CRUMBLE (GLUTEN FREE)
British influence on South African cuisine has brought Apple Crumble to the table. This version is not too sweet so I suggest not cutting much sugar if you make it as I already reduced it from the original recipe found on http://www.shahiya.com.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Cut each apple into thin wedges.
- Place the apples wedges in a deep baking dish. Make sure that the dish is not too big so you will have more than one layer of apple wedges in the bottom of the dish.
- Sprinkle the apple wedges evenly with cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar.
- To prepare the crumble crust, combine nuts, flour mix and 4 tablespoons of sugar in a bowl. Add in the butter and knead with your hands until the dough resembles breadcrumbs. Spread the crumble mixture all over the apples.
- Bake in the oven until the apples are tender and the topping mixture is golden (25 minutes).
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream on the side if desired.
- Enjoy!

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 425 degree F. I used my iron skillet for this dessert. You can use a 9 inch pie plate or another oven safe skillet. Pour pie filling into pan and chop up apples some, to evenly distribute. I then added a handful of raisins. Sprinkle with 1/2 the cinnamon...If you want more filling than topping, add an extra can of pie filling.
- 2. In a medium bowl add the flour, pecans, sugars, the other half of the cinnamon, and oats. Toss well.
- 3. Pour in the melted butter and toss together until you have all dry ingredients moistened. I use my fingers.
- 4. Spread crumb mixture evenly onto a baking sheet and bake for roughly 5 minutes or until begins to brown.
- 5. Once cool, sprinkle evenly over pie filling. Place back into oven and bake for 15 - 20 minutes or until golden. My oven went on the blinks half way through baking and burnt my top some...luckily I caught it in time.
- 6. Serve warm with a big scoop of ice cream...yummy!
Tips:
- Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples that will hold their shape when baked, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn.
- Peel and slice the apples evenly: This will help them cook evenly.
- Use a combination of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are classic spices for apple crumble, but you can also add other spices like cardamom, cloves, or allspice.
- Don't overmix the crumble topping: Overmixing will make the topping tough. Just mix until the ingredients are combined.
- Bake the crumble until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
- Let the crumble cool slightly before serving: This will help the topping set.
Conclusion:
Apple crumble is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and tart apples, crunchy oat topping, and warm spices, it's the perfect comfort food for any occasion. So next time you're looking for a simple and delicious dessert, give this apple crumble recipe a try.
