Time 4h45m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
1 pound frozen strawberries, thawed
1/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
Pinch kosher salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
About three-quarters of a 14-ounce angel food cake, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon orange extract or 2 tablespoons cream sherry
Mint sprigs, for garnish

Steps:

  • Special equipment: Six 6- to 8-ounce clear glass or plastic wide-mouthed tumblers
  • For the strawberries: Put the gelatin in a medium mixing bowl. Bring 1/2 cup water to a boil in a small pot, then pour it over the gelatin, whisking until smooth. Add the strawberries and sugar, mixing and coarsely mashing until the most of the strawberries are broken up. Refrigerate until the mixture is cold and slightly thickened, about 1 hour.
  • For the custard: Combine the milk, sugar, cornstarch and salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, whisking constantly; simmer, whisking, until thick, 2 minutes. Stir in the butter and vanilla, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl. Cover the surface directly with plastic wrap or wax paper, and refrigerate until cool.
  • To assemble: Put a layer of angel food cake cubes in the bottom of six tumblers; be careful not to press down too hard. Divide half of the strawberry mixture among the tumblers. Follow with half of the custard over the strawberry layer. Repeat all three layers.
  • Beat the cream with the confectioner's sugar until it holds soft peaks. Add the orange extract. Spoon whipped cream on top of the trifles. Garnish with mint sprigs.

STRAWBERRY ANGEL FOOD TRIFLE RECIPE - (4.3/5)

Strawberry Angel Food Trifle Recipe - (4.3/5) image

Provided by kayjayjohnson

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 store-bought angel food cake
24 ounce container frozen strawberries, sliced with sugar added, thawed
24 ounce or 3 cups vanilla pudding (We used 6+ small individual cups this time)
16 ounce container whipped cream, slightly less than the whole container
Fresh strawberries for garnish

Steps:

  • Tear angel food cake into medium pieces. Begin layering cake, strawberries, pudding and whip cream in a large clear glass bowl. Continue irregular layers, filling the bowl. Top entire dessert with a solid layer of whip cream. Slice a few fresh strawberries for garnish. Refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours before serving.

Tips:

  • Choose the freshest strawberries you can find. This will ensure that your trifle is as flavorful as possible.
  • Use a large enough trifle bowl. You want to make sure that there is enough room for all of the ingredients, and that the trifle is not too crowded.
  • Don't overbeat the egg whites. Overbeaten egg whites will make your angel food cake tough.
  • Bake the angel food cake until it is golden brown. This will ensure that it is cooked through.
  • Let the angel food cake cool completely before assembling the trifle. This will help to prevent the cake from falling apart.
  • Use a variety of toppings for your trifle. This will add flavor and visual interest.
  • Chill the trifle for at least 4 hours before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

This Easter strawberry angel food trifle is a delicious and festive dessert that is perfect for any spring or summer gathering. With its layers of angel food cake, strawberries, pudding, whipped cream, and sprinkles, it is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So, if you are looking for a showstopping dessert to make for your next party, this trifle is definitely the one for you!
