EASY CRISPY OVEN FRIES (LOW FAT, LOW CAL)

Easy Crispy Oven Fries (Low Fat, Low Cal) image

This is a delicious lower fat, lower calorie baked french fry--evidently soaking the potatoes in the salt-sugar solution draws out some of their water. This way they brown and crisp instead of steam. So yummy! (to me, these taste like the fry-daddy type french fries my mom made me when I was a kid!) My non-dieter husband also deemed these delicious. 159 calories/5 g. fat, 0 mg. cholesterol/28 g. carbs/3 g fiber Weight Watchers Points per serving: 3 This came from a WW book, but I'm not sure which one.

CHEF JOHN'S FRENCH FRIES

Chef John's French Fries image

I don't think most people realize that any decent French fry needs to be twice fried. The first frying in done at a lower temperature, which softens the potato and prepares the starchy surface for the second frying's crispification.

EASY FAT-FREE SEASONED FRENCH FRIES

Easy Fat-Free Seasoned French Fries image

I just started making these, and thought I'd share since I didn't see anything exactly like it. Great for a individual snack!

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 25m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 small baking potato
cooking spray
1 -2 teaspoon mixed Italian herbs
salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Cover an 8"x8" pan with tin foil and spray with cooking oil and sprinkle on salt.
  • Cut potato to desired wedge sizes.
  • Place potato pieces into quart size bag and spray in some cooking oil and add the herbs.
  • Shake until the pieces are coated evenly.
  • Pour into the 8"x8" pan and add some more salt on top (I like mine really saltly).
  • Place in oven and bake for 15-20 minutes for softer fries and 25-30 minutes for crispier fries.
  • Enjoy with sauce of your choice!

Tips:

  • Choose the right potato: Russet potatoes are the best choice for french fries, as they have a high starch content and a low moisture content, which results in crispy fries.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 30 minutes: This will help to remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.
  • Use a high-heat oil: This will help the fries cook quickly and evenly.
  • Season the fries with salt and pepper, or your favorite seasonings, after they are cooked.

Conclusion:

These low-fat french fries are a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional french fries. They are easy to make and can be enjoyed as a side dish or snack. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup, mustard, or ranch dressing.
